Restaurant Group to Open “New South” Concept in Life & Casualty Tower

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Downtown Nashville will soon be home to a second A. Marshall Family Foods Inc. restaurant. Andy Marshall, CEO and owner of 11 hospitality concepts under the company, has signed a lease on a space in the historic Life & Casualty Tower on the corner of 4th Avenue and Church Street. One month after the grand opening of Hattie Jane’s Creamery in Columbia, Tenn., Marshall confirmed that a “New South” restaurant, projected to open in late summer 2017, will occupy one floor of the Nashville skyscraper.

Claire Marshall Crowell, chief operating officer for A. Marshall Family Foods Inc., said the company has had its sights set on expanding its presence in downtown Nashville for a while.

“We love the market and see a lot of positive momentum and opportunity,” Crowell said. “Since opening in 2010, Puckett’s has had great success in the heart of the arts and business district downtown, and with the support we’ve received from that community so far, we are looking forward to continuing our growth there.”

Crissy Cassetty, retail recruiter for the Nashville Downtown Partnership, echoed Crowell’s enthusiasm for the area’s new addition.

“Having another A. Marshall Family Foods concept in a classic downtown location is such an incredible win!” Cassetty said. “Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant has been wildly successful and I feel certain this new concept will be another home run for this amazingly innovative restaurant group. I feel very fortunate to work with the Marshall family and I look forward to seeing this new concept thrive on this highly visible corner in downtown Nashville.”

As Nashville’s first skyscraper and the tallest building in Tennessee for the first eight years after it was built in 1957, the Life & Casualty Tower is a downtown Nashville landmark. Located just a block down from the Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant at 5th Avenue and Church Street, the building will house the new A. Marshall concept on its second floor, which can be accessed from the street. The illuminated letters L & C atop the building, which the Bank of Nashville most recently occupied, are part of the widely-recognized skyline and can be seen from many different points in and around the downtown area.

“The L & C Tower was very appealing to us because of its history,” Crowell said. “It’s one of our favorite buildings downtown, and as we design the space we will focus on blending those older elements with the modern vibe of the new restaurant.”

Construction is expected to begin next month and will take approximately a year to complete. Details regarding the restaurant’s style, name and cuisine have not been released, but Crowell confirmed it will include a bar and lounge area that overlooks 4th Avenue.
